The Plan of Salvation

Hear

We must first hear the gospel before we can know how to obey God and the plan for salvation that He has offered to men.

Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Believe

Belief is evaluating and weighing the evidences of the gospel and accepting them as truth.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

Hebrews 4:2 “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.”

Repent

Repentance is a change of mind that ultimately leads to a change of action. When a person repents they recognize their past sin and resolve to change from their old ways and turn to follow Christ.

Luke 3:13 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish”

Acts 17:30 “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.”

Confess

Confession is a verbal declaration before human witnesses that Jesus is the Son of God.

Matthew 10:32 “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven”

Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”

Baptism

Baptism is a complete immersion in water. The Bible is clear about the necessity of water baptism and that salvation occurs at this point in which the blood of Christ is applied and a person’s sins are forgiven.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”

Col. 2:12 “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

Live a New Life

Baptism marks the beginning of a new life, which is demonstrated to God and man by being obedient to God’s revealed word.

Romans 6:3-4 “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men”
